Innovative ETL tool for leading German car manufacturer: automated GDPR-compliant data processing
A leading German car manufacturer commissioned us to develop an ETL tool to ensure the automated and data protection-compliant processing of data between systems. Our solution not only enabled us to increase the efficiency of data processing, but also to fulfil the strict requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
A leading German car manufacturer was faced with the challenge of processing large volumes of data from a central source system efficiently and in compliance with data protection regulations. In order to fulfil this requirement, we were commissioned to design and create a customised ETL tool (Extract, Transform, Load).
The ETL tool was to automatically process data from a source system, transform it into the desired target format and then upload it securely to the target system. The initial data basis was a daily extract of the entire database of the source system, which represented a central hub in the car manufacturer's system landscape.
One of the biggest challenges in developing the tool was compliance with the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). According to the minimum principle of the GDPR, personal data may only be exchanged between systems if its processing is necessary for further value creation. To ensure this, we analysed the data thoroughly and coordinated closely with various specialist departments in order to carry out precise data cleansing. We also implemented control mechanisms and anonymisation automatisms to protect the data in accordance with GDPR requirements.
After cleansing and anonymisation, the data was converted into an XML file that was checked against a DTD (Document Type Definition) control file. The entire workflow was then fully automated, minimising manual intervention. Only in the event of an error was a detailed report created and forwarded to the support team for manual rectification.
By developing and implementing this ETL tool, we were able to significantly optimise data processing and ensure compliance with the strict GDPR requirements. This not only resulted in greater efficiency and accuracy of data processing, but also increased data integrity and security, which was a significant added value for the client.
